About Us

We are the only remaining military pack of foxhounds in the UK, but you don’t have to be in the military to get involved. We are a friendly hunt and welcome visitors, new members, supporters and car followers.

The Royal Artillery Hunt’s hounds operate within the law by ensuring that our activities are compliant with the Hunting Act (2004). Our hounds hunt an artificial, non-animal based scent laid down over a predetermined routes by trail layers (running, riding on horse-back, or even by quad bike) to offer variety, challenge and fun for hounds, hunt staff and followers .

We have a large and varied hunt country, ranging from Chippenham in the north, to Salisbury in the south, from west of Trowbridge, all the way east to Andover.

We are members of the British Hound Sports Association and are regulated by the independent Hounds Sports Regulatory Authority.

Get Involved

The Royal Artillery Hunt’s hounds are the modern English foxhound. They have been carefully bred and expertly trained by our dedicated team and are controlled by staff to follow a bespoke scent, laid using a scent-loaded lure. This serves to produce a simulated trail for hounds to follow in line with the 2004 Hunting Act.

For riders, this simulates the traditional ‘hunting’ experience, bringing the joy of watching hounds work, the hunt staff execute controlled hound work, and provide the followers the thrill of crossing Wiltshire’s fabulous countryside – whilst ensuring that we strictly operate within the law. This makes for a fun day out for participants and spectators.

Our hunt country covers areas east and central Wiltshire.  The landscape is incredibly beautiful - and we are grateful to our farmers and landowners for so generously facilitating access.

Following the Royal Artillery Hounds - whether on foot, on horseback or in a vehicle - offers a thrilling experience to enjoy spaces often not open to the general public.
